The course will go over concepts of freedom and justice, and ways of knowing, including how research methods impact social justice issues.Student Learning Objectives include being able to: articulate the concepts of identity and community in relationship to freedom and social justice for different peoples within specific social and material contexts; engage in integrative critical inquiry into personal, societal, or cultural beliefs and practices especially around issues of social differences and/or injustice; present arguments on issues of freedom and justice in collaboration with others; and write effectively in various forms. FJS 340 is a UDIGE and also a required course for the minor in Freedom and Justice Studies.
This is an undergraduate course, junior level standing required.
I have taught this course face to face for four years in a row. This course has not yet been taught online.

For this objective, I designed the course so that the learning activities are directly related to the learning objectives. For relevant tools, for this week I used the Discussion Board in Canvas to meet this objective, in that the learning activity of the discussion board achieves the student learning outcomes. This supports not just students learning the material for the outcomes, but also engages students with interaction and critical thinking since they must refer back to their learning materials in their responses.

The course is designed to meet this objective by including clear rubrics with all assignments. This assignment (the same discussion board mentioned above for Module 1 of the course) has a related rubric students can see so that they understand what the requirements are for each level of grading. I used the rubric tool in Canvas to make this available. This allows students to make their own decision as to whether they have accomplished teh assigned task tot he level expected of them before submitting their work.
